In an interview with designers David Ramos and Jordi Bassols, they share their vision for Aire's design, its key features, and the collaborative experience with Prostoria's development team.

What is the concept behind Aire's modular sofa design?

David Ramos: Aire embodies warmth, lightness, and comfort. The sofa consists of a continuous platform on which cushions, backrests, or wooden tables are placed. This approach enables intuitive modularity, giving users the freedom to customize elements to their needs.

The distinctive floating base gives the sofa lightness and character without compromising comfort. It is a key element of this collection, contributing to visual lightness while serving as an organizational feature for the modular system, allowing for the integration of additional elements like side or end tables. The tapered edges of the base create a refined, airy structure that supports the cushions – a detail crucial to Aire’s signature "floating" appearance.

How adaptable is Aire to different interior styles?

Jordi Bassols: Aire’s minimalist design and moderate formal presence make it highly versatile. Its numerous configuration options and the ability to integrate wooden elements allow it to adapt to various environments – from residential spaces to commercial and office interiors.

How did collaboration with Prostoria shape Aire’s development?

Jordi Bassols: Our collaboration with Prostoria was incredibly inspiring. The company consistently proposed development ideas to make the product more versatile – such as versions with terminal modules featuring lower armrests or accessories like floating platforms. Their expertise in tackling challenges, respecting our vision, and contributing to the collection’s evolution resulted in a product of exceptional quality. Details such as the precise finish of wooden tables, meticulous upholstery work that adds character and prestige, and mechanical solutions for connecting modules clearly showcase Prostoria’s excellence in production capabilities and material expertise.

How does sustainability factor into Aire's design?

David Ramos: Sustainability was a key consideration throughout the design process. We focused on creating a long-lasting design by using natural, recyclable materials and incorporating reversible joints between components to extend the product’s lifespan.

What aspects of Spanish design influence Aire’s aesthetic?

David Ramos: It’s challenging to define precisely since design today is a global concept. However, cultural influences are undoubtedly present. Perhaps we could say that lightness and formal simplicity, combined with the warmth of the product's final appearance, are elements we would highlight as part of Mediterranean design inspiration.
