On the island of Vis, the historic Peškarija building stands as a living testament to the island’s rich fishing heritage. The Proarh architecture studio has transformed this space into a dual-purpose interior—a fish market by day and a restaurant by night. At the heart of the design is a stone counter, originally used for selling fish. To accommodate its unique height, Prostoria customized the Bik barstool, offering guests a seamless experience of comfort, relaxation, and socializing.

A Testament to Thoughtful Design
The collaboration between Prostoria and Proarh showcases how thoughtful design can elevate a space, respecting its historical roots while reimagining its functionality for modern needs. The Bik chair combines understated elegance with comfort, making it an integral part of Peškarija’s unique charm.
„Peškarija was originally built in 1911, this landmark once thrived as a bustling fish market where local fishermen sold their daily catch. In the mornings, it continues to honor its heritage as a vibrant fish market. But as the day progresses, it transitions into a restaurant that marries tradition with contemporary design. This unique duality demanded furniture that could complement both the building’s historical significance and its modern purpose, a challenge met by Prostoria’s Bik bar stool..“ explained Davor Matekovic, an architect from Proarh studio.
For the Peškarija project, Prostoria developed high tables as part of the Bik collection, which were used for the first time in this interior, placed along the side wall and near the windows.
Dwelling on a chair
Peškarija is not just a dining venue—it is a space that fosters interaction and connection. The seating arrangement, accentuated by the Bik chairs, creates an intimate environment where guests sit close to one another, sharing meals and moments. This design choice evokes a familial atmosphere, embodying the spirit of togetherness.
