Horizontal headquarters is an office building for the construction company MDK from Croatia. It's located in Dubrovčan, a town northwest of Zagreb characterized by its rural and natural surroundings. The design follows the natural slope of the terrain, shaping three grassy mounds that define the central space and pedestrian access paths. Anchored within this dynamic context is a horizontal disc—a simple, ground-level structure with a square floor plan organized around a central circular atrium, resting atop the three green mounds.

Symmetrical at its core, the building is almost self-sufficient yet manages to blend neutrality with specificity. It draws the natural landscape inward, creating unexpected spatial sequences that offer a fresh perspective with each step. In a dynamic relationship with its ever-changing environment, its four seemingly identical façades are perceived differently depending on their orientation, sunlight, surrounding structures, or natural elements.

“Prostoria furniture was an excellent choice because we used pieces like the Segment sofa or Monk armchair to accentuate the space. We chose Prostoria because we believe we share the same passion for good design and quality. In our work, we often look for inspiration in mid-20th-century modernism—the 1950s and 1960s. Prostoria and we share values like simplicity, functionality, abstraction, and an approach how to treat materials, both in design and the creative process,” explained Mikelic & Vres (MVA) Architects from Zagreb.
